Owen Phillips is a Melbourne-based set and costume designer who graduated from NIDA with a Bachelor of Dramatic Art (Design) in 2011.

Owen prides himself on developing his designs via rigorous research and detailed dramaturgical analysis.  His work is always driven by the text and its unique requirements, be they small or large, broad or detailed.

Career highlights include set and/or costume design for I'll Eat You Last for Melbourne Theatre Company and Egg (MTC/Terrapin Puppet Theatre); the Helpmann Award-winning Sweet Charity for Hayes Theatre Co. and the subsequent national tour; the national tour of Little Shop of Horrors (Tinderbox Productions/Luckiest Productions); Two Weddings, One Bride (Opera Australia); Fallen (Sport For Jove/She Said Theatre); Niche (Elbow Room); Sisters Grimm’s The Sovereign Wife and Arthur's The Myth Project: Twin for MTC Neon; Psycho Beach Party for Little Ones Theatre; Terrence McNally's Master Class (Left Bauer Productions); Gaybies for Darlinghurst Theatre Company and La Cage Aux Folles (The Production Company).

Owen's designs have been nominated for a total of four Green Room Awards, two Australian Production Design Guild Awards, and two Sydney Theatre Awards, winning in 2017 for Little Shop of Horrors. Owen was also a recipient of the Australian Council's ArtStart grant in 2015.

Upcoming work includes set design for Vivid White and costume design for Wild for Melbourne Theatre Company.
